Notation follows the APIs index.

APIs that accept work to be completed later MUST return 202 Accepted with a job: a resource representing the accepted work and its progress. This applies to creates, updates, deletes, actions, and bulk operations alike.

For service-to-service work that only needs to react to something that happened, prefer events on the messaging plane over an asynchronous API. Guidance for messaging will be published separately.
